From The Desk of Dr. Whitemarsh...

Perhaps I wasn't clear...

I enjoy looking through my patient lists and seeing the names of all of you wonderful people that have allowed us to help your health.  I often find myself saying "They sure were an awesome patient" and "I wonder how they've been doing".  Then I am immediately saddened by the fact that these awesome patients have done nothing to maintain and enhance all the work we did because I have not seen them in so long.
Perhaps I wasn't clear during our care about the importance of maintenance care.  So let me be clear now...
The permanent success of the rehabilitative care that we did is only permanent when followed by maintenance care.  A rehabilitative plan is like helping a drowning victim back to the surface of the water.  But once the former drowner gets there, they still have to swim to stay at the surface or move forward.  If they stop, they WILL sink again.
If you have been ignoring your maintenance care, you have quite possibly nullified all the work that we did in the first place.  And if your condition involved degeneration of the joints, that nullifying could mean disaster.
But you feel better, huh?  Great!  I didn't know I was such a good "feelings" practitioner.  I know that for some of you our Patient Education Class was a hard thing for me to ask of you, but surely you remember what we said about symptoms.  If you forgot, call Desiree and get into our next class.
And to makes this fun, here are a few classic maintenance concepts for you to ponder...

-Continued work and dedication help a garden grow.  You can't leave it on its' own and expect it to produce.

-Getting adjusted one time per month is about $1 per day.  Find me anything else that can keep you healthy for that.

-Ever go to the dentist to repair a tooth?  Did they tell you that you could stop brushing?

-What gets you healthy keeps you healthy.

-It's less expensive to stay healthy than to get healthy.

-Does it make sense to invest in your health and then let it slip away?

-It's fun to feel good, isn't it?

-There is nothing in the world more valuable than your health.

-You think staying healthy might be expensive?  Ask someone who is unhealthy how expensive that is.

-If you repair a blown engine in your car, you can't stop getting the oil changed and expect it to stay functional.

-Just like a tooth, by the time pain arrives a lot of damage has already been done.

-I bet if people wore their spine on their face they would take better care of it.

-A stitch in time saves nine!

Okay, there you have it.  Don't let your health slip away again.  Let's get you back on track...Call us before the end of February and we will see you for your first maintenance adjustment at no charge. Getting you back to health is that important to me.  Let's be partners in your health again!

See you next time,

The Fence or the Ambulance
Joseph Malines

‘Twas a dangerous cliff, as they freely confessed,
Though to walk near its crest was so pleasant:
But over its terrible edge there had slipped
A duke and many a peasant;
So the people said something would have to be done.
But their projects did not at all tally:
Some said, "Put a fence around the edge of the cliff"
Some, "An ambulance down in the valley."

But the cry for the ambulance carried the day.
For it spread to the neighboring city:
A fence may be useful or not, it is true,
But each heart became brimful of pity
For those who had slipped o’er that dangerous cliff,
And the dwellers in highway and alley
Gave pounds or gave pence, not to put up a fence,
But an ambulance down in the valley.

"For the cliff is alright if your careful," they said,
"and if folks even slip or are dropping,
it isn't the slipping that hurts them so much
as the shock down below-when they're stopping,"
So day after day when these mishaps occurred,
Quick forth would the rescuers sally
To pick up the victims who fell off the cliff,
With their ambulance down in the valley.

Then an old man remarked, "it's a marvel to me
that people give far more attention
to repairing results than to stopping the cause,
when they'd much better aim at prevention.
Let us stop at its source all this mischief, cried he.
"Come neighbors and freinds, let us rally :
If the cliff we will fence, we might almost dispense
with the ambulance down in the valley."

"Oh, he's a fanatic." the others rejoined:
"dispense with the ambulance Never!
He'd dispense with all charities, too, if he could:
no, no! We'll support them forever.
Aren't we picking up folks just as fast as they fall?
And shall this man dictate to us? Shall he?
Why would people of sense stop to put up a fence?
While their ambulance works in the valley?"

But a sensible few who are practical too,
Will not bear with such nonsense much longer
They believe that prevention is better than cure
And their party will soon be the stronger
Encourage them, then with your purse, voice and pen
And (while other philanthropists dally)
They will scorn all pretense, and put up a stout fence
On the cliff that hangs over the valley.
